Translation services involve converting texts from one language to another with the aid of project specific tools and text editors.
Text to be translated can be in different formats, such as html pages, help texts, software files, plain texts, Word or FrameMaker files etc. The translation process involves different stages based on the type and nature of particular files. However, all text translations involve the below procedures:
- Creating or updating a glossary and its approval by the Client
- Preparation of customer's style guide determining the linguistic rules and styles, and its approval by the client (if so requested by the customer)
- Translation of the text based on the approved glossary
- Proofreading of the text
- Language Quality checks on the translated and proofread texts
- Technical quality control before delivery, and if required after translation
Based on the type of text to be translated the translation cycle also involves:
For software translations:
- Resizing translated user interface dialog boxes to eliminate differences in the size and appearance of target texts from those of the source text.
- Elimination of language errors and visual problems prior to the proofreading stage by engineers.
For software help files translations:
- Checking the consistency of terms used in the software and other related documentation.
